What is TRE®?
Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE®) is a simple yet innovative series of exercises that releases deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma through shaking or tremoring. TRE® moves stuck energy throughout the body, regulating and calming the nervous system. TRE® is based on the fundamental idea, backed by research, that stress, tension and trauma is both psychological and physical.
Tremoring is innate in all mammals. You may have seen your dog shake when there's fireworks or thunder. This is their way of getting rid of the stress of the current situation.
However, in humans, because our pre-Frontal Cortex is much more developed, we assign meaning to the shaking. Tremoring or shaking can be vulnerable or seen as weakness. So we suppress it and condition ourselves out of it.
TRE® addresses symptoms in the now, while also resolving the root cause with more and more practice. Over time, you'll expand your window of tolerance, allowing you to move through the nervous system states without getting stuck (ie. in fight/flight/freeze). Increasing your nervous system's ability to be resilient - to notice when it's becoming too activated (triggered) and then self-regulating.
After TRE®, people tend to feel more calm, relaxed, less tense and more centered. It also can address chronic pain which stems from our body holding on to stress and tension.
TRE® has helped many thousands of people globally. TRE® originated in the veteran community helping people with PTSD & CPTSD. TRE® has spread into the athletic community as intense exercise is very stimulating to the nervous system. Today, TRE® is an effective, self-care tool used in various wellness communities.
Once learned, TRE can be used independently as needed throughout one’s life, thereby continuously supporting and promoting personal health and wellness.
It is only through a safe, controlled environment, in which the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.
What to Expect
Before your first session, we'll discuss your background (injuries, surgeries, and anything your nervous system may still be processing).
Next, we'll complete the 7 TRE exercises which stretch and fatigue muscles so you can access the tremor mechanism.
